Care Provided

UT Medicine Radiology takes pride in providing quality care to you. If you have any questions or suggestions to help us improve our service to you, please feel free to contact Richard Rodriguez, our Radiology Manager at 450-6000.

General Radiography
Our radiology department is staffed Monday – Friday 7:30 am to 7:00pm . Images and procedures will be performed with orders from your referring physician.

Please ask your physician if there are any special preps to follow or call us at (210) 592-6000.

MRI/MRA
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is an imaging device that uses a magnetic field to create images of any part of the body. Some scans require an injection of an IV contrast material. The length of the exam can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour per procedure depending on the exam ordered. NO types of metal, keys, credit cards, watches, jewelry, coins, pacemakers and certain types of surgical implants are permitted in the scan room at anytime. If you have problems with claustrophobia, please discuss this with your physician prior to the scan. Please wear clothing that is free of metal buttons and zippers. Exams are scheduled Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Please call the radiology department for scheduling and instructions at (210) 450-6000.

CT Scanning
We have a helical CT scanner that provides superior and faster diagnostic information with less radiation and higher resolution resulting in superior image quality and greater diagnostic confidence. This modality is ordered for a quick and accurate diagnosis of renal stones without an injection of contrast agent or dye. Some abdominal CT scans require special preps or NPO (Nothing to eat and drink after midnight the night prior to the exam) for 1-2 hours prior to the exam. Also, a liquid contrast agent may need to be consumed prior to the exam. Please call the radiology department for scheduling and instructions at (210) 450-6000. Exams are scheduled Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Bone Density
Bone Densitometry, also known as DEXA scan is used to determine bone mineral density in patients. This is used in diagnosing osteoporosis, a disease that affects millions of Americans, primarily postmenopausal women. DEXA also determines fracture risk by measuring sites in the body that are most common for adult fractures.

The GE Lunar Prodigy Advance is a very safe, state of the art, low dose x-ray machine that produces images of the spine, hips, forearms, or even the whole body. The whole body option can calculate body fat composition as well as bone mineral density. The painless test takes only a few minutes. Please call the radiology department for scheduling and instructions at (210) 450-6000. Exams are scheduled Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Taking Films or CD to Another Physician If you are taking your films or CD from UT Medicine to another facility, you will be required to call at least 24 hours prior to pick-up.
